The Center for Sports Leadership and Learning utilizes instructions, development programs and in-depth sports research to, we equip athletes, coaches, and sports professionals to lead with courage, clarity, and conviction — on the field and in life.

We believe leadership in sport is more than performance — it’s about purpose. Our mission is to unlock human potential through sport by cultivating deep self-awareness, emotional intelligence and a vision for human flourishing that lasts far beyond the game.

Ben Baroody

Executive Director, Center for Sports Leadership and Learning

Ben Baroody joins ACU as Executive Director of the Center for Sports Leadership and Learning after an extensive career with the Texas Rangers. Most recently, he led the Rangers’ programs in leadership, mental wellness, and organizational development, where he created the “Rangers U Player Pathway,” a pioneering educational initiative for players. Ben’s prior experience includes multiple roles at MLB’s Commissioner’s Office and Major League Baseball, where he contributed to the development of youth and professional programs like the MLB Urban Youth Academies and Breakthrough Series. A native of New Hampshire, Ben holds a Bachelor’s in Marketing and Public Relations and an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling, slated for completion in 2025, and brings a wealth of expertise to his mission at ACU of advancing transformative educational opportunities in sports.

Brandon Podgorski

Director of Academic Programs, Sports Leadership

Brandon Podgorski is the Academic Program Director for the Bachelor of Science in Sports Leadership and Management and the Master of Science in Sports Leadership at ACU. He brings nearly two decades of experience in higher education as a professor, coach, and athletic director, as well as eight years in revenue development. Brandon has taught a range of sports marketing and management courses and is a frequent media contributor on contemporary issues in sports. His research interests include college athletics, sports business, and youth sports development, and he is passionate about fostering ethical leadership among future coaches, administrators and professionals.

Dr. Daryl L. Jones (DJ)

Dr. Daryl L. Jones, known as DJ, is the Vice President of Sports Leadership and Learning at ACU Dallas. A former sports industry executive with over 20 years of experience, DJ earned his doctorate in management from Case Western Reserve University. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Sports Product Management and Organizational Behavior and previously led his own consulting firm, helping organizations transform culture through values-based leadership. Since joining ACU, DJ has spearheaded innovative curriculum and programs to support athletes and sports leaders in reaching their full potential and achieving impactful change in sports culture.

Dr. Brenda McAdoo

Executive Director, Executive Education and Professional Advancement

Dr. Brenda McAdoo is an assistant professor dedicated to creating innovative professional development curriculum within ACU’s Executive Education and Professional Advancement division. Drawing on her extensive background in federal law enforcement and public service, Brenda specializes in designing training programs that enhance leadership, negotiation, and crisis management skills for professionals across a range of fields. Before joining ACU, she retired after over twenty-four years with the FBI, where she investigated high-stakes cases involving organized crime, child protection, and violent offenses and served as team leader on the FBI Crisis Negotiation Team. Brenda also has a background as a certified mediator and former Deputy District Attorney in California, which informs her passion for developing curriculum that fosters resilience, critical decision-making, and a mission-oriented mindset among future leaders.

With over two decades of leadership in Major League Baseball, Joe Bohringer has served in key executive roles with the Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners. His expertise in talent evaluation and front office operations laid the groundwork for his current work in executive coaching and professional development. Joe specializes in guiding leaders and organizations toward greater clarity, strategic alignment, and personal accountability, using insights honed at the highest levels of sport.

Dr. Aimee Kimball, Phd, MBA

Executive Coach

Combining her Executive MBA with a PhD in Sport Psychology, Aimee is a performance optimizer and a cultural architect. She has worked with organizations and teams from the New Jersey Devils, the Washington Capitals, and USA Women’s Hockey across team and organizational development, mental performance, and creating learning environments.

Nayli Russo, PharmD, MBA

Executive Coach

A strategic executive with a unique blend of clinical, corporate, and cultural insight, Nayli Russo has led large-scale initiatives to align people and purpose. Trained as both a pharmacist and executive, she has led Excellence Programs and Strategy in healthcare and professional sports. Through her company, Russo Leadership, she now partners with organizations to foster clarity, alignment, and cultural resilience. Her coaching is rooted in radical candor, intentional growth, and the belief that leadership is a symphonic art.

Kyle Stark

Executive Coach

Kyle Stark is an innovator in leadership systems. Kyle is a former collegiate baseball coach and MLB executive who during his time with Cleveland and Pittsburgh oversaw Player Development. He integrated psychology, values-based coaching, and mental skills into the team’s development philosophy. Today, he coaches executives and sports professionals on building sustainable, high-performance cultures that are rooted in purpose, identity, and character development.

Del Matthews is a key architect behind Major League Baseball’s strategy to expand the game’s reach and impact. As VP of Baseball Development, he oversees programs that identify, nurture, and elevate young talent across diverse communities—domestically and internationally. A former college and minor league player, Del combines his lived experience in the game with a passion for mentorship, inclusion, and leadership pipeline development. His executive coaching lens focuses on legacy building—helping leaders invest in future generations, cultivate cultural fluency, and lead with both strategy and heart. Del is instrumental in shaping the future of baseball not just through player development, but through values-driven leadership at every level of the sport. Del is currently enrolled in ACU’s Master of Sports Leadership.

Luke James is President of VitalCaring Group which provides compassionate, high-quality home-based health care. As an ACU alumni and former student athlete, Luke discovered a passion for compassionate, high-quality home-based health care for our country’s most vulnerable populations. His career has included diverse roles in the home-based healthcare industry as a financial analyst, vice president of business operations, chief strategy officer and eventually, president. His expertise and experience include culture management, strategic direction, partner relations, and performance management.

Dr. Lori Robinson

Director of Team Enrichment, Houston Texans (NFL)

Lori Robinson is a trailblazer in the NFL, known for her holistic and human-centered approach to player development. Formerly as the Director of Player Engagement for the Baltimore Ravens and now the Director of Team Enrichment for the Houston Texans, Lori leads initiatives that support athletes’ personal growth, financial literacy, community engagement, and career transition. Her leadership is rooted in empathy, strategic planning, and a deep understanding of the player journey – on and off the field.

With a background in education, counseling, and player services, Lori empowers individuals to grow beyond the game by creating developmental programs that prioritize mental wellness, identity formation, and long-term success. Her work has set a benchmark across professional sports for what it means to support the whole person behind the athlete.
